General Description: Under the general direction of the Court Administrator, the Court Clerk is responsible for assisting the Court Administrator in carrying out the day-to-day ministerial duties of the court. The Court Clerk aids in performing general duties essential to the adequate operation of the court. Tasks should be completed proficiently, and within a reasonable timeframe.
Essential Job Duties:
-Handling public at the window (inquiries, payments, etc.)
-Primary person to answer phone calls.
-Ticket importing, filing in case jackets, and filing under court docket daily.
-Collect payments of fines, costs from defendants, and processing the payment in the court system, marking the jacket to reflect the payment accepted.
-Process mail daily- (payments promptly receipted and files pulled for updating, attorney “entry of appearance” stamp “received”, entered and filed, and forward the necessary paperwork back to the attorney if requested, returned mail-file with case jacket, etc.)
-Process the cancelled warrants, if a bond has been posted. Process cancelled warrants if a cancellation is sent from St. Ann Dispatch.
-During Court, the Clerk will help with set up, check-in defendants and direct them where to enter.
-Process the Prosecuting Attorney’s recommendation, for the defendants’ attorneys.
-After Court, the Clerk will assist in the updating the docket, throughout the posting process.
-In the absence of the Court Administrator, the Clerk is to balance the money receipted that day and prepare the bank run, and run the daily income report to balance with the money.
-At the end of the day straighten/organize desk of any clutter, for the start of the next day, this can take place at 4:30 when the Court is closed to the public.
-Perform other tasks as assigned.
-Assist Court Administrator with daily tasks as needed.
This position requires strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills necessary to understand and carry out proper court procedures. Some college coursework preferred and a minimum 1-year experience as Court Clerk. Candidate must demonstrate a strong knowledge of Show Me Courts. Candidate must be familiar with the Municipal Clerk Manual. Must be able to satisfactorily pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen.
